What happens to her when she meets Chirag Dubey (Ayushman), and Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkumar Rao) is the whole movie. This one is an entertainment bomb.

8. Pad Man (2018)

Propelled by a gripping storyline and great performances from Alia Bhatt and Shahrukh Khan, this is a movie that you don’t want to miss.

Plus, the likes of Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee have done quite well in the supporting roles. As for the box-office success, the movie was able to mint ₹280.76 crores against the budget of just ₹25 crores.

Set in the Indian state of Haryana, the film is loosely based on the Phogat family and its tryst with the coveted medals at the Commonwealth Games. Beyond the story, Pritam’s music and Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics are also worthy of praise.

31. Guru (2006)

The movie is loosely based on the life of Dhiru Bhai Ambani — the founder of Reliance. It’s not a biography but takes a lot of inspiration from his life. It showcases the rise of a villager who came to Bombay in 1958 and rose to become the most prominent industry tycoon in the country.
I enjoyed watching this movie tremendously. The script is tight, and the casting is perfect. Abhishek Bachhan kills it as the main character Gurukant Desai, and so does Aishwarya Rai as her wife. Add Mithun Chakraborty, R. Madhavan, Vidya Balan, and more such talented supporting actors, and you get a gripping story performed by masterful actors and actresses.
The final feather in the crown is the music scored by A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Gulzaar. Guru’s music will make you smile, laugh, and cry. It will take you on a journey. It complements the movie and doesn’t take you out of it. If you have not watched Guru before, I highly urge you to watch it.

Not only does the movie have a good story and excellent acting, but it’s also a masterpiece of the craft of movie-making itself. The way this movie cuts between its two main timelines is exquisite. You never feel out of the place, and every sequence fits perfectly.
Talking about the plot, it’s a story of Indian Youth and how they reconnect with their past. The story revolves around six young Indians who assist an English Woman in filming a documentary on the freedom fighters. As they are filming the documentary, they learn about the sacrifices that were made to make this country and the responsibilities that have been placed on us to move this country forward.

With A.R Rahman’s soundtrack and Irshad Kamil’s lyrics, Tamasha won’t fail to touch your heart, should you have a penchant for romantic flicks.

37. Article 15 (2019)

He is transferred to a rural area, where he fights to bring justice to a strange case of missing girls and breaks the social prejudices in the process.
The movie title is taken from Article 15 of the Indian constitution that abolished any discrimination based on religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth, or any of them. My favourite thing about this movie is that it doesn’t show any heroism. Ayushman Khurrana works with the resources he has and solves the case like a normal police officer. You are going to enjoy this one.

38. Badhai Do (2022)

Everything seems to work fine in their marriage of convenience until Sumi’s girlfriend comes to live with them. The movie openly talks about the hardships the LGBTQ+ community is going through and how our society is yet to understand the seriousness of the issue. Targeting the homophobic contributours of society, both the lead actors have given a fabulous performance motivating those from the community to come out of the closet.

Sandhya comes from a broken family (his father is a drunk police officer – no mother in the picture), and it’s easy for Shyam to get her interested. The story becomes complex when Sandhya’s classmates discover the relationship. It’s not an exceptional movie, but the performance of both Nawaz and Shweta is great, and you will enjoy the experience.

Its beauty is something intangible that can never be captured. And thankfully, Anurag Kashyap has not tried to do that in his movie Dev D. Instead, he has given his modern take on the novel and created a gem.

41. Bulbbul (2020)

It reimagines the concept of cliche horror stories from Indian folktales and presents a predictable yet mysterious story. A young bride grows up to be an enigmatic woman looking after the ancient Haveli. Meanwhile, the villagers are meeting mysterious supernatural deaths. Because of the weak script, the movie heavily depends on music scores and cinematography to convey the desired feeling, and it works tremendously well. The night sequences with blood-red shade and alluring music scores by composer Amit Trivedi are enough to make this movie a must-watch.

42. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

Pankaj Tripathi as Sattu bhaiya (the dice in the game), Abhishek Bacchan as Bittu (red player), Aditya Kapur and Sanya Malhotra as Akash and Shruti (yellow player), Rohit Suresh Saraf and Pearle Maaney as Sheeja and Rahul (blue player), and Rajkumar Rao and Fatima Shaikh as Aalu and Pinky (green player). All these players unknowingly cross each other’s paths, creating an out of the box comedy story. Ludo proves to be a masterpiece coming from Anurag Basu, famous for creating offbeat content.

The movie beautifully uses the Mumbai infrastructure to film thrilling chase sequences with inspiring background music by Amit Trivedi. Moreover, the story focuses on wicked politicians and the common problem in Mumbai, water shortage. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero was a box-office failure due to weak marketing grossing only ₹4.5 crores against the budget of ₹21 crores. However, the movie has become a cult classic, with audiences demanding a sequel.

He forces him to study engineering and work at his metal factory. Udaan, translated as flight, shows how the young boy breaks free from the chains and prison made for him. This underrated gem is among the very few movies from Bollywood which shed light on important topics. The movie wasn’t a commercial success but successfully gathered a cult following in the coming years.

Haider, a young student and poet, comes back home to seek answers to his father’s mysterious disappearance. However, he is dragged into state politics and ends up taking harsh decisions. Haider is the first Indian film to win the People’s Choice Award at the Rome Film Festival. The movie also garnered critical acclaim and was a box-office hit.

Both leads are shown equally skewed in mind establishing a connection between them. Director-writer Anurag Kashyap took the inspiration for the character from a real-life serial killer Raman Raghav who was active in the 1960s. He previously wanted to create a period film but instead dropped the idea and made a modern-day movie. The movie was a commercial success at the box office and was screened at many international film festivals.

The movie’s cast is new, and the only recognizable face is Gulshan Grover. Still, the movie successfully won critical praise, honour, and various awards in film festivals. It talks about one of the fundamental rights in India, the right to education, without making the story melodramatic. The little actor Harsh Mayar also received recognition for outstanding acting performance.

The movie wasn’t a big success on the box office but is loved by fans to date for the beautiful music and charming story. You will definitely fall in love with the songs created by the trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

It talks openly about the reality behind the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast and culprits like Dawood Ibrahim’s help in the process. The movie is shot in a docu-drama format with original news clippings from the time. It also saw some backlashes from the victim families of the bombings and was delayed several years before its final release in 2007. The movie was critically acclaimed and won the Grand Jury Prize as well.
